ABOUT
Welcome to Rooted Joy! My name is Carrie. I am a photographer based in Denton, Texas and a mother of two incredibly beautiful little boys. We love our living room dance parties, weekend cuddle puddles, camping & hiking new trails.
I've had a deep love for the art of photography for over 12 years now. I started out as a curious teenager with my entry level Nikon D5000, exploring my home town with friends who played as my portrait models. As the years passed, I gained more experience through photography classes at the Art Institute of Houston, newborn posing safety courses and countless hours photographing (almost) anything and everything.
After spending years exploring different genres, I found that my niche truly is couples, families and children with a photojournalistic approach. I feel so blessed to witness the connections and precious moments between families & lovers and I strive to capture them in a way that tells a unique story. In-home sessions or coming up with activites that families enjoy doing together are my favorite ways to document my clients.
Although I've loved photography for so long, becoming a mother has drastically changed my relationship with time and the value I see in an image. Witnessing first hand the preciousness of life, I have grown to respect each passing moment, no matter it good or unpleasant. There is so much beauty in the realness, the raw and unscripted. We are divinely imperfect human beings and that's the way I want to capture you. I want to hold space for your realness and be a witness to the love you share with your people. I want to move away from the societal pressures telling us what types of photos we should be taking of ourselves, what we should be wearing and what poses are trending. I grieve for the years I contributed to this deeply rooted issue in our society, but I am so glad to have found what feels right, which was completely changing my approach to photography.
I don't want to just take your pictures, I want to create meaningful relationships and get to know what makes your story so unique. I promise to pour my heart and soul into your images and to honor your realness, because I would want the same for my family.
